Questions parents ask.

Choosing a school brings practical questions as well as bigger ones about learning. Start here, and bring your own questions when you speak with us.

If children choose their activities, how do they learn what they need?

Choice and teaching work together in Montessori. The educator demonstrates materials, helps a child begin and observes what they are ready to explore next. Children also learn to use materials with care and respect other people’s space. Choice is supported by guidance and shared limits.

Why do children of different ages learn together?

In a mixed-age Montessori classroom, children can learn from someone with more experience and later help someone who is beginning. They do not all need the same lesson at the same time.

How will I know my child is making progress?

Progress can be seen in the ideas a child explains, the skills they practise and what they can do with greater independence. Parents also need a clear account from the educator.

Will my child have homework?

No. We do not give children homework.

Instead, we encourage parents to involve their child in everyday life at home — helping with simple household tasks, caring for their belongings and gradually taking on small responsibilities. We also encourage parents to read with their child and make time for meaningful conversations.

Can my child move to a conventional school later?

Yes. A child can transition to a conventional school later. When the time comes, parents will need to be actively involved in understanding the new environment, its expectations and what their child may need to adapt to. We will work alongside parents to support the child through this transition.

What if my child finds drop-off difficult?

We start small. For very young children, we begin with shorter periods in the environment and gradually extend the time as they become more comfortable and familiar with their surroundings.

We ask parents to be patient and supportive during this transition. Separating from a parent can be difficult for a young child, and we give each child the time and space they need to build trust and feel secure in the environment.

Does my child need to be toilet trained?

Toilet learning is an important part of developing independence, which is central to the Montessori approach. We encourage parents to begin the process at home before their child joins the environment.

We support children with toilet learning within the environment as well. Since children spend much of their time at home, consistency between home and the environment can make the process easier for the child.

Children who are comfortable using the toilet independently are also able to participate more freely in their work and spend their time purposefully.

Which languages will my child hear and learn?

English is the primary language used in the environment. Children are also introduced to Tamil and Hindi through presentations and everyday experiences during their time with us.

How many children and adults are in each group?

We maintain a child-to-guide ratio of approximately 10:1. A classroom assistant is also present to support the smooth running of the environment and to assist the children and guides.

What are the fees, and when can my child join?

Please call us for details about fees and availability. We welcome children throughout the year, because a child’s development does not follow an academic calendar.

How can we decide whether Montessori is right for our family?

Look at how children use the materials and how the adults respond to them. Ask how reading, writing and maths develop, how progress is followed and how the daily routine would work for your family. A visit gives you something concrete to consider alongside the explanation.
